The cult classic returns! Monogatari Series confirms its continuation with “Off & Monster Season”

After years of silence and speculation, Aniplex has officially confirmed that the Monogatari Series universe will return to screens. The adaptation will cover the Off Season and Monster Season arcs, bringing back the avant-garde aesthetic of Studio SHAFT that defined an entire generation of otakus.

The announcement was made via a cryptic but visually stunning trailer featuring iconic characters such as Nadeko Sengoku and Tsukihi Araragi, suggesting that the stories will focus on the events following Koyomi Araragi’s graduation. According to sources close to the production, Akiyuki Shinbo will oversee the project, ensuring that the “head tilts” and lengthy dialogues retain their original essence.
The community has received the news with euphoria, as these seasons explore the lives of the heroines beyond their relationship with the protagonist, delving into the folklore of “eccentricities” from new perspectives.

Technical details:

  • Release date: 2026 (month to be confirmed).
  • Publisher: Kodansha (light novels).
  • Publication start: 2006 (original series), 2015 (Off Season).
  • Synopsis: After resolving the problems of the main heroines, the world of oddities continues to turn. New mysteries and personal developments await the girls who were once victims of curses.
  • Studio: SHAFT.
  • Director: Akiyuki Shinbo (Supervisor).
Monogatari is SHAFT’s prodigal son. In an era where anime tends to standardize its aesthetics for mass consumption, the return of such an experimental style is a breath of fresh air. The big question is whether they will manage to capture the same cultural impact that Bakemonogatari had more than a decade ago.
