Oshi no Ko: Live Action Reveals Its First Official Trailer

Amazon Prime Video and Toei have released the first preview of the live action adaptation of Oshi no Ko. The project, which includes a series and a movie, promises a raw and visually striking vision of the world of idols and acting.

The trailer stands out for its vibrant aesthetic, which contrasts with the dark themes of the original work by Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari. Actress and former idol Nagisa Saito will play Ruby, while Kaito Sakurai will bring Aqua to life. The artistic direction seems to have taken a lot of inspiration from the visual style of the anime, seeking a smooth transition between formats.
Technical details:

  • Original publisher: Shueisha (Young Jump).
  • Publication start date: April 2020.
  • Production: Toei / Amazon Prime.
  • Synopsis: A doctor and his patient are reborn as the children of their favorite idol, Ai Hoshino. From there, they dive into the depths of Japanese entertainment to discover a devastating truth.
Adapting Oshi no Ko to live action is a logical move given that the story is about the Japanese entertainment industry. The challenge will be to maintain the emotional charge and not just stay on the surface of the aesthetics.
