Controversy: Animators denounce extreme conditions at a top studio

Several independent animators who worked on one of last season’s biggest releases have taken to social media to denounce working days of more than 18 hours and pay below the legal minimum. The news has once again raised alarms about the sustainability of the current production system.

Through detailed threads, the artists showed schedules that were impossible to meet. Although the name of the studio was not directly mentioned for legal reasons, the descriptions point to one of the most award-winning production companies for its visual quality. “We can’t eat animation quality,” read one of the most shared messages.

While anime generates billions, the base of the pyramid continues to suffer. If the industry does not change its business model, the collapse of talent is inevitable.
