Cosplay breaks boundaries at international conventions

The cosplay phenomenon continues to gain prominence at events around the world. At Comic-Con Malaga 2025, the costume contest was one of the main attractions: for example, Seville-based cosplayer Javi took first prize after spending around €1,700 on his detailed Halo armor. Designer and international judge Yaya Han praised the quality of the costumes, highlighting the effort and creativity of the fans.

The 2024 World Cosplay Summit in Nagoya, Japan, brought together competitors from 36 countries. The Japanese team of Mamemayo and Mioshi triumphed with a performance inspired by Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha, which included inflatable elements of Kurama and Susanoo on stage. Sweden and Germany won silver and bronze. This event marked Japan’s first victory in 12 years, showcasing how cosplay blends cultural homage and spectacle.
