High School DxD: supernatural harem with a unique style

High School DxD is a harem/ecchi anime with supernatural elements that caused a sensation with its combination of comedy and action. It centers on Issei Hyodo, a perverted student who is killed by a fallen angel but revived as a demon by Rias Gremory, leader of a demon clan. The series (adapted from light novels by Ichiei Ishibumi) stands out for its racy humor and battle sequences filled with demonic powers.

In terms of synopsis and context, the TNK/DX production created four seasons between 2012 and 2018. Each episode usually mixes risqué comic scenes (constant fanservice) with magical battles. Rias Gremory (the blonde antagonist/demon) became an icon of the franchise due to her striking design. The narrative progresses as Issei fights demon hunters and angels, slowly uncovering secrets from his past. The animation favors highlighting the erotic aspect (vibrant colors, suggestive cameras), but it also has serious moments where it shows supernatural techniques.

In terms of reception, DxD is recognized by its harem/ecchi fans. Media outlets such as anmosugoi mention it in their anime reviews, highlighting that its popularity led to more adaptations (including OVAs). Although it is not a “serious” work for everyone, those who enjoy the genre recommend it for its charismatic protagonist and cheeky humor. Fans point out that, despite the ecchi, there is real character development in Issei (his desire to protect Rias drives his growth).
