Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete: magic and YURI comedy
Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete (also known as Gushing Over Magical Girls) is a romantic fantasy comedy that blends the magical girl genre with yuri. The protagonist is Utena Hiiragi, a shy girl who idolizes magical heroines. In an unexpected plot twist, Utena gains magical powers to become a villain in an evil team: as the story progresses, she discovers a sadistic side with which she tortures the very girls she once admired.

The fun and recommendable aspect of the anime lies in this role reversal: seeing Utena go from submissive fan to “general of evil” is unusual and comical. In addition, it introduces charismatic characters such as Kiwi Araga, a fan of Utena who becomes her ally/fangirl with notable doses of humor and romanticism. The combination of fantasy, absurd comedy, and lesbian romance made the anime, released in January 2024, well received; in fact, a second season was announced after its broadcast.

- Unique genre: it mixes magical girl comedy with a touch of yuri, something that surprises fans.
- Funny plot: Utena falls in love with her evil role, a scene that is described as hilarious: “first she idolized the magical girls, then she enjoyed torturing them.”
- Colorful characters: characters like Kiwi inject romance and laughter, highlighted by fans as “cute, crazy, and full of energy.”
